Halle Bailey, renowned for her role as Princess Ariel in Disney’s live-action remake of The Little Mermaid, is stepping into her solo music career. On July 31, she thrilled fans by announcing the release of her debut solo single, “Angel,” which is set to drop on August 4.
To tease the upcoming release, Halle shared a heartwarming montage of childhood home videos and recent solo performances on her YouTube channel and social media platforms. The video is accompanied by a poignant mid-tempo instrumental, and it ends with the quote, “Angels make a way somehow,” potentially hinting at the theme of the song.
“Angel” will mark Halle Bailey’s first venture into solo original music. As one-half of the Grammy-nominated duo Chloe x Halle, she has achieved significant success with two entries on the Billboard 200: “The Kids Are Alright” (No. 139) in 2018 and “Ungodly Hour” (No. 16) in 2020. The duo’s lead single from Ungodly Hour, titled “Do It,” also made its mark on the Billboard Hot 100, reaching No. 63.
In addition to her musical accomplishments, 2023 has been a momentous year for Halle Bailey in the acting realm. Her role as Princess Ariel in The Little Mermaid‘s live-action remake garnered massive success, grossing over $118 million during its opening weekend over Memorial Day. She also lent her captivating voice to the film’s soundtrack, delivering stunning renditions of classic Little Mermaid songs like “Part of Your World” and showcasing impressive new tracks like “For the First Time.” Further showcasing her versatility, Halle is set to star in another movie musical, Blitz Bazawule‘s The Color Purple, which is scheduled for release on Christmas Day.
