Auckland-based singer-songwriter, Will Swinton, has released his latest single, “Daydream,” through 10K Projects/Capitol Records. The introspective track, marked by its multi-layered and atmospheric sound, combines angst with addictive melodies, showcasing Swinton’s mature lyricism. This release follows his genre-defying EP, “Better Days,” and the single continues to establish Swinton as a young artist with a unique musical perspective.
The inspiration behind “Daydream” came from a dream Swinton had, as he explains, “‘Daydream‘ came from a dream that I had. In the dream, I was in a studio session with FINNEAS, and he played me music. He plays it, and it was the melody to ‘Daydream.’ I don’t remember the words exactly, but I made a voice memo of it as soon as I woke up.”
This single marks Swinton’s return to the music scene after the success of his debut EP “Better Days” in October. The EP propelled him into the spotlight, earning recognition from Rolling Stone. His independent single “All For You” reached the Top 10 of the Hot 20 New Zealand Singles Chart in 2022, and tracks like “Better Days,” “Wasted You,” and “Leave In The Morning” secured spots in the Top 15.
Will Swinton’s presence on TikTok has garnered over 100 million views, further solidifying his impact in the digital space. He has collaborated with artists like Claire Rosinkranz and gained the support of MGK. Swinton’s live performances have taken him to various global stages, including SXSW in Austin, TX, The Great Escape in Brighton, UK, and Primavera in Barcelona, Spain. Notably, he supported Dermot Kennedy on the New Zealand leg of his tour. With “Daydream,” Will Swinton continues to push his creative boundaries, delivering anthems that resonate emotionally and leave a lasting impact.
