The artist, whose real name is Hassan Emilio Kabande Laija, was born near Guadalajara, Mexico, but spent his formative years in San Antonio, Texas, and New York, New York. His stage name, “Peso Pluma,” translates to “featherweight,” inspired by the legendary Mexican boxer Marco Antonio Barrera due to his lean physique.
Peso Pluma‘s music career has seen impressive success, with his July album, Genesis, debuting at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart and spending 11 weeks on the chart so far. He has achieved 21 entries on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, including “Ella Baila Sola,” which reached a peak of No. 4.

Moreover, Peso Pluma’s Genesis album broke records by amassing 101.8 million streams during the charting week of July 8. This achievement marked the largest streaming week ever for a regional Mexican album, surpassing global superstar Bad Bunny, who had held the record since May 2022 with 24 songs on the Hot Latin Songs chart simultaneously.
