In one of the most memorable pop culture moments of the year, Rihanna‘s Super Bowl Halftime Show performance took an unexpected turn when she revealed her pregnancy on stage. However, it turns out that the pregnancy reveal wasn’t initially part of the plan. Rihanna recently explained that her baby bump grew too big to hide, leading to the unplanned announcement.
During the red carpet event for her new Puma launch on Monday (December 18), Access Hollywood’s Scott Evans inquired about Rihanna’s halftime show look. Rihanna humorously explained the situation, saying, “Hereās the thing: I did what I had to do, right? My jumper couldnāt zip up [laughs]. No one knew I was pregnant, I just told my stylist, āMake sure itās stretchy.ā So the under-arm was stretchy and this was baggy, but you know, the zip, it just stopped right there, so it had to be what it had to be!ā
Rihanna and ASAP Rocky welcomed their second child, Riot Rose Mayers, a few months later in August. The birth certificate, revealed in September, disclosed that Riot was born on August 1 at 7:41 a.m. in Los Angelesā Cedar Sinai Hospital.
The unintentional and candid nature of Rihanna’s pregnancy reveal only added to the authenticity and uniqueness of the moment, solidifying its place as one of the most iconic highlights of the year.
