Becky G keeps fulfilling her ambitions!
The most recent issue of Variety featured the Latina Powerhouse on its cover for the first time. The actress, singer, and businesswoman discussed how she discovered her artistic and private independence.
The singer of Mexican descent chose to prioritize her profession and reputation after starting a legal dispute with her former producer.
She told the publication:
âNo one has the power to put me in a boxâŚNo one else should be the dictator of what I do with my body, how I use my voice, or how I choose to express myself.â
Becky just published her 14-track album Esquemas and claims that this allows her to explore many musical styles and genres, from dembow to reggaeton.
âI think back to when it wouldâve been an artistâs downfall to experiment with so many sounds on the same album because youâd get accused of not âknowingâ your sound or who you are as an artist,â she said.
âI started to feel free when I started singing in Spanish â itâs always been one of my biggest fears,â Becky confesses. ââShowerâ was like [someone saying], âOK, hereâs the demo â now sing it.â And I was like, âSure! Whatever I gotta do,ââ she says. âBut with the songs on âEsquemas,â Iâm singing from a place of empowerment because Iâm fully involved in the creative process.â
