A sequel to the iconic movie “The Devil Wears Prada” is in the pipeline, according to Lauren Sherman from Puck. Disney is taking the reins for this new project, bringing back notable figures such as Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and the original screenwriter, Aline Brosh McKenna. However, there’s still no confirmation if Anne Hathaway will return.
The original movie, which casts Streep as the formidable editor Miranda Priestly and Hathaway as her overwhelmed assistant, is a beloved satire of the fashion world. Based on Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 book, which reflects her experiences under Anna Wintour, the film was a critical success, earning two Oscar nominations.
The sequel is set to explore the decline of print media. The plot reportedly features a confrontation between Streep’s character and her former assistant who now holds a pivotal role at a major luxury conglomerate—key to the survival of the “Runway” magazine. The narrative will showcase Priestly’s challenge to adapt to a new era where digital strategies are crucial, navigating reduced travel budgets, and adapting to the growing influence of social media on fashion events. A release date for the sequel has yet to be announced.
