Beach Bunny has unveiled their new single “Vertigo” via AWAL, marking their first release since the 2022 album Emotional Creature. The Chicago-based band, led by Lili Trifilio, dives deep into themes of personal growth and vulnerability, set against a backdrop of catchy hooks. “Vertigo” captures the essence of self-doubt, anxiety, and the journey towards self-discovery.
Trifilio shared the story behind the song: “People often ask where the sad girl anthems are, but I’m on a path of self-awareness now. This song is about self-sabotage and jealousy. I wrote it in my head on a flight and tried to record a demo in the airplane bathroom, but it was too loud. I ended up memorizing it during the entire four-hour flight.”
The release of “Vertigo” coincides with Beach Bunny’s current arena tour with Melanie Martinez, which kicked off last month and included performances at Madison Square Garden. The band is also set to perform at Riot Fest in Chicago this September. Tickets for all shows can be found on their official website.
Since the release of Emotional Creature, Beach Bunny has achieved significant success with singles like “Prom Queen” and “Cloud 9”, both of which have been certified Platinum by the RIAA, and “Sports,” which is certified Gold. “Prom Queen” has garnered over 500 million streams on Spotify. The album debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart and has been featured in major publications such as the New York Times and Stereogum.
Beach Bunny’s recent achievements also include opening for Panic! At the Disco on their final tour and organizing the Pool Party Festival in Chicago in 2023, further establishing their presence in the indie music scene.
