Owen Unveils New Album The Falls of Sioux Alongside Lead Single “Beaucoup”

1 min read

Owen, the solo project of the prolific songwriter Mike Kinsella, has announced his latest album, The Falls of Sioux, co-produced by Sean Carey (Bon Iver) and Zach Hanson (Bon Iver, Low, Waxahatchee). Scheduled for release on April 26th via Polyvinyl Record Co, this album marks a significant chapter in Kinsella’s musical journey. Accompanying the announcement is the release of the lead single, “Beaucoup.”

Beaucoup” showcases Kinsella’s experimentation with electronic production, a departure from his acoustic roots, influenced by his collaboration with cousin Nate in the innovative group LIES. The track merges acoustic guitar strums with shoegaze textures, deep synth bass sequences, and waves of noisy electronics, creating a captivating sonic landscape.

The accompanying music video, filmed in a clandestine Chicago speakeasy, captures the dual nature of “Beaucoup,” exploring both its seedy and flirtatious sides. Kinsella reflects on the song’s essence, stating, “I’m not sure if ‘Beaucoup’ is a lusty Love Song or a lovely Lust Song. Everyone at Weird Life did a great job capturing the seedy side of it, as well as the shimmery/flirty side, visually hitting (and bending) the same note between the notes for the music video.”

The Falls of Sioux represents a significant evolution in Kinsella’s artistry, blending intricate production with poignant lyricism. While previous albums delved into themes of grief and loss, this new release reflects a sense of self-acceptance and growth. Collaborators on the album include Sean Carey, Zach Hanson, KC Dalager (Now, Now), Russell Durham, Corey Bracken, and various other talented musicians.

Kinsella’s upcoming tour will see him perform across North America and Europe, captivating audiences with his introspective songwriting and captivating melodies. From intimate venues to iconic music halls, fans can expect an unforgettable live experience from Owen.
