French-Djiboutian singer Shay Lia has released her new album, Facets, through AWAL Recordings, marking her sophomore offering. The album features ten tracks, including previously released songs such as “Solo,” “TakutĆ”,” “Upside Down,” and “On the Low,” the latter being produced by her longtime collaborator, Kaytranada.
Shay Lia describes Facets as a reflection of the various aspects of her life, lived across different cities, countries, times, and spaces. She expresses that her music cannot be confined to a single genre, as her influences and experiences are multi-layered. The album is intended to be a demonstration of all sides of her artistic self.
The album commences with the track “High,” which radiates confidence and is built on an Amapiano-tinged production led by GuiltyBeatz. The song exudes an empowered vibe, with Lia singing, “Baby, I know Iām the wish on your list / See, but Iām gonā put me first on my list / And I know where I go, Iām a vibe / Catch me if you can.”
One of the highlights on the album is “E.G.O. (Energy Gets Over),” which features vocal support from R&B duo Majid Jordan and a guest verse from rapper Buddy. In this track, Shay Lia dismisses a narcissistic lover and reflects on her healing journey. She describes the experience as cathartic and empowering, allowing her to confront a person’s “god complex.”
To support her second album, Shay Lia is embarking on her first-ever headlining tour, commencing in the U.K. and Europe on November 22, 2023, in Paris, France. The tour will include stops in Amsterdam, Brussels, Berlin, and London. On February 23, 2024, Shay Lia will kick off the North American leg of her tour in Montreal, Quebec, with additional shows in Toronto, New York, San Francisco, and concluding in Los Angeles on March 2, 2024.
