To film the music video for her most recent single, “Arranca,” which features Dominican mambo superstar Omega, Becky G flew to the Dominican Republic. Nevertheless, after returning home, the singer and actress of Mexican origin dropped by the Alofoke Radio Show to discuss her brand-new song and open up about her relationships with Natti Natasha, Karol G, and her soon-to-be husband, FC Dallas player Sebastian Lletget.
The 25-year-old native of Inglewood expressed excitement about working with Omega and watching how people respond when they see him in public.
“I love to collaborate with different artists, but after my featuring song with El Alfa, we had so much fun, and he told me I should be making more music with Dominicans,”
Becky said, adding that one of her friends from the Dominican Republic had suggested she record a song with Omega.
They were at Boca Chica, a hamlet close to Santo Domingo noted for its white sand beach and protected seas, Becky informed the show’s co-hosts Santiago Matas, Sabrina Gómez, Dotol Nastra, Chico Sandy, Ali David Demey, Doble J, and Dj Nabil.
“We had so much fun. We didn’t have a lot of security. The production team had the idea of filming in Boca Chica. I respectfully wanted to take advantage of this country’s talent; therefore, we chose a Dominican team for this video,”
She emphasized in Spanish that there were only women in the entire workforce.
Since the singer enjoys working with women, it was a no-brainer for her to collaborate with Natti Natasha on her track “Sin Pijama.”
“I tried to push that song for two years to my record label,” Becky said. “I was a fan of Natti, but I hadn’t met her at the time. So I decided to send her a DM through Instagram saying, ‘Hey, you have flow, we both are shorties with flow, you have to be on my song,’” she joked.
A former team member reportedly questioned the cooperation, according to Becky. Nevertheless, she was aware that her song would have a “moment” in Latin music.
“Sin Pijama” became viral after its 2018 release and went on to win the Lo Nuestro Award for Urban Song of the Year as well as the Lo Nuestro Award for Urban Collaboration of the Year.
The entertainment world later heard that in addition to Natti Natasha, Becky had also asked Karol G. Karol G declined the duet because she thought it didn’t reflect her at the time and the lyrics were “too explicit,” according to her.
“I wanted ‘Sin Pijama’ to be the reggaeton version of ‘Lady Marmalade,’” Becky said on Alofoke Radio Show. “My invitation was sincere; I wasn’t thinking about the numbers, views, or likes. It was more about girl power. I understand that you do things when you feel comfortable in this industry, so I respected her decision.”
