Behind the scenes photos have been leaked from the set of the upcoming biopic Cassandro, which features Gael García Bernal as the first openly gay Mexican-American professional wrestler, Saúl Armendáriz.

Bad Bunny stars alongside Bernal as Felipe, a young man who is responsible for meeting Cassandro’s every need. The film has already premiered on January 20 at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival and will be streamed on Amazon’s Prime Video very soon.

Cassandro follows the story of the legendary Mexican wrestler, aka El Exótico, who defied stereotypes and showed himself freely as he is. Armendáriz paved the way and declared himself the first in the history of this sport to be LGTBIQ+.

The biopic is set in the 80s and will delve into homosexuality, a subject considered taboo during those days. A first glimpse of Benito’s and Bernal’s on-screen relationship has gone viral, following the release of images in which the two share a kiss.

The Un Verano Sin Ti singer first made an appearance in a feature film in the ninth installment of the Fast & Furious franchise. He last starred opposite Brad Pitt in Bullet Train, which was released in 2021. Bad Bunny is also set to lead Marvel’s El Muerto as the masked superhero and luchador from Sony’s Spider-man Universe.
