See Why Carin Leon Made Google’s 2022 Year In Search List

Google has unveiled their list of the top searches from the year 2022, which includes some of the most popular song lyrics, phrases, and recipes. Along with searching for “where is Rosalia from?” and Bad Bunny lyrics, many Latinos in the U.S. were also interested in Carin León’s “La boda del Huitlacoche.”

“¿Qué es un Huitlacoche?” What is Huitlacoche is one of the top 10 searches this year, just after “¿Qué es monotonía?”, referring to the touching bachata performed by Shakira and Ozuna.

León claims that “huitlacoche” is a type of corn fungus, but he also claims that the name Cuitlacoche refers to a bird because of its singing. According to León’s spokesman, the Huitlacoche and the Urraca are the two birds who marry in the myth.

Famous Mexican song “La boda del Huitlacoche” was initially released in 1998 by Los Broncos de Reynosa. In December 2020, León released his humorous take alongside the Los Honorables band from Hermosillo. The song became more popular on social media this year, resulting in more than 250K video compositions on TikTok.

“This song is well known in Culiacan, Sinaloa, and it’s more like Regionalism,” León previously said on Live With Billboard Latin. “Hence that not-so-polished live sound — we wanted to give it a more folkloric sound to remember our culture.”

The song soared with a 21-9 sprint to the top 10 of the Regional Mexican Airplay chart in July. The song debuted at No. 27 on Latin Airplay, marking Leon’s highest debut among her seven chart entries, and won the Greatest Gainer award. This achievement was made possible by a 97% increase in audience impressions, reaching 4.37 million.
