Ankhal Opens Up About The Shooting Incident That Left Him Paralyzed

Puerto Rican rapper Ankhal, known for his bold and fierce attitude, sat down with the Rolling Stone to discuss his future in music.  After having survived a near-death experience, the “Si Pepe” singer talks about the recovery process and what he plans to do from now on.

With collaborations with Myke Towers, Rauw Alejandro, and Jhay Cortez, Ankhal was on the rise early last year until the tragic night in February, when he was shot point-blank. He was in a coma for 16 days and when he finally woke up, his life was never to be the same again, “It’s a moment that changed everything, truly, not just because I almost lost my life. I could feel — how do I say this — God with me. I was begging him to save me because my daughter had just been born, and to give me another chance. I remember that part like it was yesterday; I saw my daughter’s face. It was really heavy.”

Ankhal is thankful that he’s alive and will continue to “…keep tearing things up.” He recently released the remix of Farruko’s “Nazareno.” The urban artist wrote his verses reenacting the devastating incident, “It was overwhelming, it brought back a lot of memories, but truly the point of it is to get a message across to people so they can relate to it.” He performed the song with Farruko for the first time at the Billboard Latin Music Awards.
