Carin León has had a busy few months, performing to packed houses across the United States and most recently recording a remarkable Tiny Desk performance that highlights his talent and originality. He is now releasing a new song titled “Si Es Cierto Que Te Vas,” which is supported by sophisticated instrumentals that highlight the stark strength of his voice.

He and Orlando Aispuro co-produced the song, which combines more traditional Mexican rhythms with elements of country, bolero, and soul. Even while he is launching into intriguing new ideas, León takes care to maintain rich, organic instrumentation.

León mentioned the following in an interview with Rolling Stone:

“From the first moment I heard it, I connected with the lyrics and the fresh, authentic language. I had the opportunity to work with Alberto Medina and Orlando Aispuro on the mix and the production, and we gave ourselves the freedom to explore and fuse Mexican folk with pop and country bases, resulting in a song that I am sure will connect with fans and offer a preview of what I’m preparing for my next album.”

León has enjoyed tremendous success this year thanks to a number of breakthrough tracks that demonstrate how much Mexican music is expanding on a worldwide scale. His most recent songs demonstrate why he’s leading the movement:

After collaborating with artists like Mau y Ricky, Matisse, Rio Roma, and Banda MS, he released the refined ballad “No Es Por Acá” this summer. He received a Latin Grammy nomination on Tuesday for his collaboration with the Mexican band Matisse on the hit song “Como Lo Hice Yo” in the category of Best Regional Song.
