Here’s What Kim Jong Un Says About K-Pop

1 min read

When it comes to K-Pop, North Korea’s supreme leader, Kim Jong Un, describes the culture as “vicious cancer.” He then added that he believes the sole purpose behind K-Pop is to corrupt the young generation by altering their attitude and behavior.

The North Korean government has been at a cultural war with South Korea for a long period of time. As a matter of fact, any citizen residing in North Korea is strictly prohibited from possessing or consuming any K-Pop materials and those who refuse to abide by the law can face five to 15 years in concentration camps.

Sources have also added that if North Korea gets infected with the K-Pop disease, it might crumble the country as a whole.

It’s worth noting that the North-South relationship hasn’t had any bilateral relationship ever since the end of the Korean War, which was in 1953.  Although when Kim first seized power had a more liberal approach, he soon changed his policies and started prohibiting almost every product or service coming from abroad.
