Tom A. Smith Is Shifting Gears With a New Single “Fashion”

Tom A. Smith might be just 21, but his track record reads like someone twice his age. Starting from viral beginnings to co-signs from Elton John and a Glastonbury slot under his belt, he could compete with far more experienced musicians. Now the Sunderland-born artist has made quite a reputation on anthemic, fuzzed-out alt-rock.

Yet, he is not stopping at what he has achieved. Tom A. Smith is bringing an electrifying new single, ā€˜Fashion’, and a fresh deal with Fiction Records. So, Smith is shifting gears and fully stepping into his next chapter.

ā€œThis is a new era for me,ā€ Tom says with clarity. ā€œI really know who I am now.ā€

ā€˜Fashion’ is filled with all sharp guitar stabs, synth bite, and full-throttle urgency. Thus, it is the sound of an artist planting his flag in bold new sonic territory. Inspired by an interview with Eurythmics’ Dave Stewart, Tom aimed to craft something simple but punchy. ā€œI wrote and finished it in a few hours. The whole thing just poured out,ā€ he says. Produced by The Futureheads’ Barry Hyde and mixed by Ali Chant (Yard Act), the track is already a live favorite, even before its official drop.

So, with Fiction Records, Tom’s vision has only sharpened. ā€œSeeing my name alongside Tame Impala on their site… I keep checking to make sure it’s real,ā€ he grins.

Hence that mix of humility and drive has defined his evolution since 2022’s “EP1.” ā€œI’ve grown a lot,ā€ he says. ā€œI’m not the same 17-year-old. Everything from songwriting to production—I’ve pushed to improve.ā€

While names like Nile Rodgers, Morrissey, and Elton John have taken notice, Tom A. Smith remains grounded. ā€œThey’re just people. Really kind people,ā€ he shrugs. ā€œBut I love that I’ve done it all with my best friends.ā€

Thus, the vintage aesthetic of ā€˜Fashion’ echoes Tom’s passion for the old-school. ā€œVintage gear, vintage clothes… I love anything over 30 years old,ā€ he says.

Additionally, there’s more coming. ā€˜Fashion’ is just the beginning of a larger project, he teases. ā€œIt’s time to ramp up releases and show people what I can do.ā€

With the energy he brings to every stage—and now the full force of a label behind him—Tom A. Smith isn’t just hinting at what’s next. He’s charging toward it, full volume.
