WIINSTON Releases Captivating New Track, ‘Blue’

1 min read

Copenhagen-based R&B-pop duo WIINSTON has returned with their latest single, “Blue,” an electro-pop inspired track that showcases their distinct sound. Known for blending mainstream appeal with anti-commercial elements, the duo continues to push the boundaries of pop music with this release. “Blue” is the first glimpse into their upcoming EP project, SKITZO, which is set to drop in early 2025.

WIINSTON, composed of vocalist Daniel Richards and producer Alfred Thomas, has been consistently carving out their space in the music scene since debuting in 2017 under Capitol Records. Their music has always been a fusion of different genres, effortlessly blending elements of R&B, pop, and electro. Richards and Thomas take pride in creating music that sits between commercial pop and something more experimental. The new single “Blue” reflects this balance with its sharp, tongue-in-cheek hook layered over sleek electro-pop production.

“There’s a fine line between mainstream and anti-commercial, and we always find ourselves standing on that line,” Richards said about the new track. He explained that “Blue” has a playful, sarcastic edge but remains grounded with an alluring, polished sound. The single reflects WIINSTON’s ability to infuse a more sophisticated aesthetic into pop music, while still keeping it accessible.

In addition to the release of “Blue,” WIINSTON also announced their ambitious upcoming project, SKITZO. The EP features a unique concept: each track will be presented with an A-side and a B-side, using the same lyrics and melodies but interpreted through entirely different musical styles. Alfred Thomas, the duo’s producer, explained the vision behind the project: “We wanted to experiment with the idea of duality in music. With SKITZO, every release comes with two different interpretations of the same song, each giving a distinct mood and feel.” The project promises to be innovative and offers fans a deeper exploration into WIINSTON’s creative process.

WIINSTON first gained attention with their debut album MIDNIGHT ROCKET in 2018, a dark, urban-infused project that highlighted their multifaceted approach to music. They followed it up with JELLYFISH in 2019, a more acoustic and dreamy record. After a four-year break from album releases, the duo returned in 2023 with THE LAST DAYTONA, which included standout singles “care4” and “tick in blue.” Their work has received widespread attention from both culture and music media, and they continue to evolve their sound with each release.

As they prepare for the full release of SKITZO in 2025, WIINSTON’s latest single, “Blue,” offers a fresh look at their dynamic approach to songwriting and production. Fans can expect a concept-driven, innovative project that explores the tension between commercial appeal and artistic experimentation.
