Trinidad and Tobago native hip hop artist, Allcapskiel, also known as Caps, has finally released his long-awaited debut album, Speed Demon. Featuring an impressive tracklist, it includes standout singles like “Credit Crash” and “No Mercy.” In an in-depth conversation with the rapper, he shared the creative process behind curating the record, revealing that he carefully sifted through his hard drive to handpick the perfect songs.
Among the selected songs, Allcapskiel personally chose “Which Is It” as the track that captures the very essence of Speed Demon, emphasizing its introspective nature. Striving to push boundaries, he ventured into experimenting with new production techniques, aiming to create an album that resonates with listeners on a personal level.

How did you select the tracklist for Speed Demon? Were there any songs that didn’t make it onto the album but might be released as singles or included in a future EP?
I make a lot of music so one day I sat down and decided to scroll through my hard drive and play all the songs I had and curate an album. And thus a masterpiece was born. I love releasing music for my fans to consume so I will definitely be getting more to them. The best feeling is having the people enjoy what I make for them.
If you had to choose one song from Speed Demon that represents the essence of the entire album, which one would it be and why? What makes it stand out to you?
I would say the last track “Which Is It” just because it is truly an introspective song. It forces the listener to look within themselves to pick and choose paths.
How did you approach incorporating important and emotionally powerful themes into your lyrics and music, and what message or feeling do you hope listeners take away from the record as a whole?
I put myself into different situations that I have experienced myself or that I have heard about or could imagine in order to make this album relatable almost universally. I hope that they re-experience the joys of their own growth or become motivated to do better in their lives.
Did you experiment with any new production techniques or instruments while recording Speed Demon? How do you believe these elements enhanced the sonic experience for your listeners?
I did. I finally, after more than a decade of recording music, learned exactly what the technique of gain staging is. It brought my production to almost studio quality. It makes me happy that you can listen to my music as you would your other favorite artists.
What impact did your upbringing in both Brooklyn, NY, and Chester, VA have on your musical journey and the development of your unique sound?
Having split my childhood almost right down the middle between the two, it really allowed me to have a more diverse taste. I started off with the up top rap of the likes of 50 cent, Biggie, etc. and then moved down South and got into Lil Wayne, T.I., Future, and Young Thug. It helped my versatility a lot.
Which artists have caught your attention as potential collaborators for future projects? Are you working with anyone at the moment?
I would love to make a song with literally anybody. I have really thrown myself into this music business. Off the top of my head I would say Kodak and Future, but the sky’s the limit.
Can you share any exciting plans for live shows or performances in the upcoming months? Are there any specific venues or events where fans can catch you on stage?
I am hoping to grace the stage at Bonfire ATL very soon. Also finalizing a deal to get onto IndieFest ATL.
