Tom A. Smith might be just 21, but his track record reads like someone twice his age. Starting from viral beginnings to co-signs from Elton John and a Glastonbury slot under his belt, he could compete with far more experienced musicians. Now the Sunderland-born artist has made quite a reputation on anthemic, fuzzed-out alt-rock.
Yet, he is not stopping at what he has achieved. Tom A. Smith is bringing an electrifying new single, âFashionâ, and a fresh deal with Fiction Records. So, Smith is shifting gears and fully stepping into his next chapter.
âThis is a new era for me,â Tom says with clarity. âI really know who I am now.â
âFashionâ is filled with all sharp guitar stabs, synth bite, and full-throttle urgency. Thus, it is the sound of an artist planting his flag in bold new sonic territory. Inspired by an interview with Eurythmicsâ Dave Stewart, Tom aimed to craft something simple but punchy. âI wrote and finished it in a few hours. The whole thing just poured out,â he says. Produced by The Futureheadsâ Barry Hyde and mixed by Ali Chant (Yard Act), the track is already a live favorite, even before its official drop.

Tom A. Smith Signs a Deal With Fiction Records
So, with Fiction Records, Tomâs vision has only sharpened. âSeeing my name alongside Tame Impala on their site⊠I keep checking to make sure itâs real,â he grins.
Hence that mix of humility and drive has defined his evolution since 2022âs “EP1.” âIâve grown a lot,â he says. âIâm not the same 17-year-old. Everything from songwriting to productionâIâve pushed to improve.â
While names like Nile Rodgers, Morrissey, and Elton John have taken notice, Tom A. Smith remains grounded. âTheyâre just people. Really kind people,â he shrugs. âBut I love that Iâve done it all with my best friends.â
Thus, the vintage aesthetic of âFashionâ echoes Tomâs passion for the old-school. âVintage gear, vintage clothes⊠I love anything over 30 years old,â he says.
Additionally, thereâs more coming. âFashionâ is just the beginning of a larger project, he teases. âItâs time to ramp up releases and show people what I can do.â
With the energy he brings to every stageâand now the full force of a label behind himâTom A. Smith isnât just hinting at whatâs next. Heâs charging toward it, full volume.
