Can you share the inspiration behind your new single, “Conceited”? What themes or messages do you hope to convey through the song?
“Conceited” was born during a writing session with my friend Bendik Moller while I was studying at Berklee. He had suggested we write a āMariaā type of song and I had said to him that I feel like my confidence often gets misunderstood. The idea really took off from there. The message I wanna convey is that you can truly love yourself and also have insecurities of your own. If my confidence comes off as conceited, Iām fine with that because I know what it took for me to get there.
The music video for “Conceited” is Y2K-inspired. How did you collaborate with the director and creative team to bring this concept to life?
My director, plainfacedgirl, shot and edited everything herself. Together, we collaborated on the creative direction, and filmed everything on a green screen. We had talked about going for that y2k girly vibe, and she really nailed it. Iām absolutely in love with this video. It cleverly intertwines elements of technology with a nostalgic nod to the 2000s.
You’ve gained significant recognition on platforms like TikTok. How has your journey as an artist evolved since you first started sharing your music online?
As an artist, I see social media as a gift. It has introduced me to an amazing audience. Initially, I started on TikTok by writing to popular songs, but everything changed when I posted a verse to āMoodā by 24kgoldn. That moment gave me a lot of traction and visibility to share my own music. Then, people started using my own songs in their videos. Iām constantly receiving messages from girls who tell me that my music boosts their confidence as they get ready in the morning. That kind of connection is a blessing I never had before TikTok, and it means the world to me.
“Conceited” explores complex themes of self-perception and empowerment. How do you relate to these themes personally?
Iāve always felt the pressure to please others, often shrinking myself to make those around me more comfortable. But as Iāve grown older, Iāve found my voice and learned the importance of believing in myself. “Conceited” is a powerful reminder that you should unapologetically root for yourself. If someone tries to make you feel otherwise, itās often just their own projection.
Can you describe your creative process in the studio? What role do you play in the production of your tracks?
Iām involved in every aspect of my songwriting process, and I love recording and vocal producing myself. For “Conceited,” Bendik tracked and engineered the vocals in our friendās bedroom, which was a really fun night. While I like the vibe of studios, I donāt believe that you need to be in one to create. I produce all the time in my bedroom with a laptop and an interface.
Are there any unique production elements or sounds in “Conceited” that youāre particularly excited about? How do they contribute to the overall vibe of the song?
Iām absolutely in love with the background vocals in this song! I remember how we kept layering and stacking them over and over again. I really love vocal arranging cause thereās nothing like creating a full choir with your own voice.
Youāve been compared to artists like Ariana Grande and Rihanna. Who are your biggest musical influences, and how have they shaped your sound and artistic identity?
That is the sweetest compliment. I love them both! Rihannaās music was all I listened to growing up. Also, Ariana Grande has the most incredible gift, and watching her vocals produce her own music gave me the confidence to try it myself. Lana Del Rey has had a tremendous influence on my music. I really love her voice and the visuals she creates. I truly believe there isnāt a pop artist today who hasnāt drawn inspiration from her career.
Can you give us a sneak peek into your upcoming EP, āUltrabaddieā? What can fans expect in terms of sound, themes, and overall vibe?
I canāt wait for everyone to experience this EP as a whole! The songs that are already out focus on themes of self-confidence and self-worth, while the new songs are about navigating yourself within relationships and rediscovering yourself after they end. Plus, I co-produced all the remaining tracks, so youāll get to hear that as well.
Given your success on TikTok, are you planning to create any TikTok challenges or interactive content related to “Conceited” to engage your fans and encourage them to share their own interpretations of the song?
Absolutely! Iāve been sharing little snippets of Conceited, and Iāll be posting an open verse challenge along with some fun trends. I canāt wait to see everyone using this song when they get ready and do their glam.
Is there anything else youād like to share with your fans or those who are just discovering your music?
I want to thank everyone whoās listening and supporting me. As an independent artist, I really appreciate all the love that comes my way. My hope is that my music brings you comfort and confidence whenever you need it. Thank you so much for having me, and I can’t wait for you to hear “Ultrabaddieā!
