K.Flay Announces New EP “I’m Making Friends With The Silence” and 2025 Tour Dates

Multi-platinum and 2x GRAMMY-nominated artist K.Flay has officially announced her upcoming EP, “I’m Making Friends With The Silence”, set to release on November 12, 2024, via Giant Music. The EP features six reimagined tracks from her 2023 album ‘MONO’, offering fans a more intimate and nuanced take on her original work. Alongside the EP announcement, K.Flay has also revealed dates for her 2025 North American headline tour, kicking off in February.

The first two reimagined tracks, “Punisher (softer version)” and “Carsick (softer version),” are now available for streaming, giving fans a glimpse into the new direction K.Flay has taken with these songs. MONO, released in 2023, was a bold and experimental project, born out of the emotional turmoil K.Flay experienced after losing hearing in her right ear. The album’s aggressive sound mirrored the chaos and confusion she was facing while adjusting to single-sided deafness. However, as time passed, K.Flay felt the need to revisit some of the tracks with a different approach.

In July 2024, K.Flay traveled to Nashville to collaborate with producer Lonas and a small group of musicians to strip back the heavy production of “MONO” and create softer, more meditative versions of select songs. The new EP explores the emotional subtleties of the tracks, focusing on quiet moments and the power of less. K.Flay explains, “After I lost my hearing, I was determined to make a big, experimental modern rock record. That’s “MONO”, and I’m so proud of it. But my SSD (single-sided deafness) and profound tinnitus make listening to loud music difficult. And so a strange fact hung in the air: I’d made an album that was hard for me to listen to.”

She continues, “I wondered what it would be like to reimagine some of my favorite songs from ‘MONO’ in a totally different way. A softer one. That’s how ‘I’m Making Friends With The Silence’ was born. The approach was organic and minimal. We focused on intimacy and nuance, and not overproducing anything. The result is (I hope) a meditation on pain, growth, and the power of less.”

Fans will be able to experience the softer versions of MONO’s tracks in full when the EP drops in November, followed by a chance to see K.Flay live during her 2025 North American tour. The tour begins on February 24 in Sacramento, CA, and concludes on March 29 in Los Angeles, CA.
