ren.y.c: There wasn’t a specific event or story. I thought about the first couple of lines and just went with that topic.
E. H.: Can you talk about your creative process for this single?
ren.y.c: I punched in the first couple of lines, where I made the hook, and continued to do that throughout.
E. H.: How do you blend hip-hop and pop elements in your music?
ren.y.c: I love melodic hip hop, so I usually lean more towards that style. Which is in between pop and hip hop.
E. H.: Can you share any behind-the-scenes moments from the music video shoot?
ren.y.c: I lost my voice a couple days before, so I didn’t know how well I’d be able to perform, but I’m happy with how it turned out.
E. H.: How has growing up in NYC influenced your musical style?
ren.y.c: I’d say what I grew up listening to and the music that was played around me.
E. H.: Who are some of your biggest musical influences?
ren.y.c: I grew up listening to the radio, so all the popular hits in the 2002–2017 era.
E. H.: How would you describe your sound to new listeners?
ren.y.c: I’d describe it as melodic hip-hop. It does change from song to song, but mainly falls under the hip-hop category.
