Auckland’s own Will Swinton has unveiled his latest track, “Can’t Let Go,” released under 10K Projects/Capitol Records. Swinton, both a singer and songwriter, collaborated closely with Peter Fenn—who has worked with artists like Fred again and Miles Smith—to write and produce this vibrant single.
Will Swinton shares that “Can’t Let Go” was inspired by his frequent trips between Auckland and Los Angeles, where he was trying to maintain a long-distance relationship.
“This song captures the emotional hurdles and the intensity of being away from someone important to you,” he explains. The song features a lively acoustic guitar that sets the tempo, complemented by a rhythmic tambourine, adding to the energetic and expressive performance by Swinton. In the lyrics, he earnestly sings, “Take my heart, but don’t take the blame,” and in the chorus, asserts, “Still I’m holding on this time, but I can’t let go.” The track showcases his skill in creating music that resonates on a personal level while being incredibly appealing.
The music video, which Swinton directed himself, matches the song’s laid-back feel. Filmed in Los Angeles, it shows Swinton singing on an outdoor sofa, accompanied by a guitarist, his dog, and a group of friends, enhancing the song’s relaxed atmosphere.
