Philadelphia punk band The Menzingers have announced the release of “Some Of It Was True (Deluxe)“, a special edition of their highly praised seventh album, set to drop this Friday, May 31st. This edition includes two new tracks, including the single “Gone West“, which is available to stream now. These new songs will also be released on limited edition 7-inch vinyl, available for pre-order HERE.

Alongside the announcement, The Menzingers have released a music video for “Gone West,” shot and edited by their friend and touring crew member, Tyler Long. The video features a collection of heartwarming moments on and off stage from their headlining tour last winter. Watch it below.

“We recorded ‘Gone West’ during the ‘Some Of It Was True‘ sessions, but felt it didn’t quite fit on the album. It has some of my favorite guitar and vocal melodies,” says vocalist/guitarist Tom May. “The lyrics playfully address the acceptance of mortality. ‘Going west’ is a euphemism for dying that I find interesting, like following the sun.”

Four years after the release of 2019’s “Hello Exile,” “Some Of It Was True (Deluxe)” sees The Menzingers working with Grammy-nominated producer Brad Cook (Bon Iver, the War on Drugs, Waxahatchee). Recorded at the renowned Sonic Ranch studio in Texas, Cook helped capture their live energy in the studio, resulting in their most immediate and energetic record yet.

Lyrically, “Some Of It Was True” demonstrates how the band’s songwriting has grown, incorporating stories from the world around them and the lives of others. “This record feels different for us,” says vocalist/guitarist Greg Barnett. “It’s an important part of our catalog and a pivotal moment in our history. Our fans are growing with us, and we wanted to expand our lyrical themes beyond our own lives to include other people’s stories.”
