Canadian indie-pop artist Cassie Dasilva is on a roll, building momentum with her latest single “What’s My Excuse?” Fresh off the heels of the brooding “Middle Child,” this new track arrives alongside the announcement of her upcoming EP, you don’t wanna feel this much all the time, dropping May 17th, 2024.

Accompanied by a moody lyric video, “What’s My Excuse?” ā€“ her third release this year ā€“ delves into themes of anger, regret, and the journey of self-discovery. This introspective track explores the complexities of unhealthy relationship cycles, where the source of frustration lies not solely with the other person, but within oneself.

“I wrote ‘What’s My Excuse?’ on my piano a long time ago,” Dasilva explains. “It’s always held a special place in my heart. The song tackles being trapped in a toxic dynamic, knowing you need to escape but finding yourself drawn back in. There’s anger present, but not necessarily directed at the other person ā€“ it’s a self-directed frustration. It’s about those late-night calls you know you shouldn’t answer, the drunken declarations that vanish by morning light. You can only blame someone else for so long before realizing your own role in the situation.”

you don’t wanna feel this much all the time is a collection of songs that dissect Dasilva’s journey of self-discovery and how her relationships have shaped her. Dasilva describes it as “a deeply personal exploration,” showcasing her talent for introspective songwriting.

The EP features previously released singles “Part of the Club” and “Middle Child,” alongside “What’s My Excuse?” and three brand new tracks. Production is handled by Juno award-winning producer Hill Kourkoutis.

“This EP explores the contradictions of loving deeply while fiercely protecting my independence,” Dasilva continues. “Often, the very qualities that make me who I am ā€“ vulnerability, creativity, honesty ā€“ become points of conflict in relationships. This collection chronicles the highs and lows of love, heartbreak, and growth, embracing the complexities of intimacy with brutal honesty. Each song had to pass the ‘do I really want people to know I feel this way?’ test. This vulnerability is my guiding light, ensuring the music resonates deeply. It can be scary to admit things affect you deeply, but I hope these songs create a space for listeners to share the messy feelings and realize they’re not alone.”
