Olivia Rodrigo continues to roll out the red carpet for the Guts era, this time with a music video teaser for fan favorite “Obsessed.”
The 21-year-old pop star took to Instagram on Wednesday to offer a glimpse of the visual treatment for the track, set to appear on the upcoming deluxe edition of her sophomore album, Guts (Spilled).
The brief clip throws viewers into a scene dripping with passive-aggressive tension. Olivia Rodrigo strides into a hall filled with women adorned in beauty pageant sashes, each seemingly representing an ex-girlfriend of a love interest. The sashes themselves are a hilarious touch, reading “Miss Thought She Was the One,” “Miss Also Thought She Was the One,” and “Miss 2 Summers Ago.” Rodrigo, however, stands out with her own sash declaring “Miss Right Now.”
This thematic choice perfectly complements the song’s jealous narrative. As Rodrigo sings in the chorus, “I’m so obsessed with your ex / I know she’s been asleep on my side of your bed / And I can feel it,” the visuals promise a darkly comedic exploration of insecurity and competition.
Fans can expect the full “Obsessed” music video to drop alongside the Guts (Spilled) deluxe edition at midnight ET on Friday, March 22nd.
The news of the expanded Guts came as a surprise to fans attending the first night of Rodrigo’s two-night Chicago stand at the United Center on Tuesday. Unfurling a sign that simply read “Guts Deluxe Out Friday,” the pop star revealed five new tracks for the collection. “So American,” a brand new song recorded after the original album’s release in 2023, joins previously unveiled “secret tracks” “Obsessed,” “Scared of My Guitar,” “Stranger,” and “Girl I’ve Always Been.”
