Jungle, the dynamic funk and soul/dance duo, is back with their latest single ‘Candle Flame’ and has announced the details of their forthcoming fourth album ‘Volcano.’ The video for the new track can be watched below, along with our conversation with J Lloyd, one half of the duo.
Composed of J Lloyd and Tom McFarland, Jungle released their third album ‘Loving In Stereo’ in 2021. Last year, the pair followed up with two new tracks – ‘Good Times’ and ‘Problemz’ – and shared that they had begun working on their next album.
The first glimpse of the upcoming LP is ‘Candle Flame,’ which showcases Jungle’s signature energy, disco and soul-infused backdrop, and the unique rhymes of Erick The Architect. J Lloyd expressed his excitement for the single, saying it’s one of the best things they’ve ever created. He added that the single offers a taste of the album’s more subtle and aggressive approaches, making listeners eager to hear the entire project in context.

‘Volcano’ was crafted from various sessions, featuring contributions from different voices and previous recordings. Alongside Erick The Architect, the album includes guest appearances from Bas, Roots Manuva, Channel Tres, and JNR Williams.
J Lloyd discussed the collage-like approach to the album, explaining that it added a remixed vibe, making the album feel more free-flowing. For instance, they had previously collaborated with Channel Tres, and they ended up using those vocals for the ‘Volcano’ track ‘I’ve Been In Love.’ A similar experience occurred with Roots Manuva, whose freestyle beat poetry over some tracks was later integrated into the track ‘You Ain’t No Celebrity.’
The 14-track album showcases Jungle’s sense of ease and freedom, a stark contrast to the duo’s early years when they wrote music together in a bedroom with limited equipment. J Lloyd described the album’s energy as quick, explosive, and untamed, allowing them to break free from any constraints.
Jungle’s transformative nature enables them to disappear within their work, getting lost in the artwork and videos, and providing a sense of escape. J Lloyd emphasized that they love the new album, and he wouldn’t skip any of the tracks, which he believes is a good sign.
Jungle’s upcoming album ‘Volcano’ features an exciting lineup of tracks, showcasing a range of styles and collaborations. Here’s the complete tracklist:

Earlier this month, Jungle was announced as one of the headliners for this year’s All Points East festival in London. The duo is set to perform at Victoria Park on Saturday, August 26, alongside Erykah Badu, Folamour, BADBADNOTGOOD, 070 Shake, Tobe Nwigwe, Charlotte Day Wilson, Lil Silva, Ragz Originale, and Pretty Girl. Tickets can be found here.
Regarding their upcoming headline performance, J Lloyd expressed excitement and described the experience as somewhat surreal. He emphasized the duo’s focus on creating a new, more intense show, envisioning Jungle as a fusion of Daft Punk and the Supremes, or Soulwax and the Temptations sharing the same stage.
In addition to their festival appearance, Jungle will embark on an extensive North American and European headline tour later this year. Tickets go on sale at 10am local time on March 31. The full tour dates are listed below, and tickets can be found here.
