The upcoming Ghostbusters: Afterlife sequel is adding two new cast members to the team – Kumail Nanjiani and Patton Oswalt. This is Nanjiani’s first film role since his breakout performance as Kingo in Marvel’s Eternals, which also featured Oswalt in one of its post-credit scenes.

While the plot details for the new Ghostbusters film are still under wraps, it’s been revealed that the story will take place in New York City and move to the original firehouse used in the 80s-era Ghostbusters movies. Gil Kenan is set to direct the picture, with original director Jason Reitman taking on the role of writer-producer. When asked about directing, Kenan expressed his excitement to be working with the franchise, saying, “It’s an absolute honour to pick up the proton pack and step behind the camera for the next chapter of the Spengler family saga”.

Reitman, who is the son of original Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman, expressed his gratitude for being able to work on the film, saying, “Words will never express how grateful I am to have made a film with my father by my side. It’s now time to hand those keys to my creative partner and fellow Ghostbuster Gil Kenan, a brilliant director who will keep the Spengler spirit alive”.

Alongside Nanjiani and Oswalt, Paul Rudd, Finn Wolfhard, and McKenna Grace will be reprising their roles from the original Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Fans are eagerly anticipating the new film, which is still untitled, but is expected to be released in December.

The addition of Nanjiani and Oswalt to the Ghostbusters cast is sure to add to the film’s already impressive lineup, and fans are eagerly anticipating what the new sequel will bring. With a talented cast and an experienced director at the helm, it looks like the Ghostbusters franchise is set to continue its legacy in style.
