Reggaeton titans Daddy Yankee and Nicky Jam are the reason behind the genre’s global popularity. True fans remember how in 2000 the two came together for Los Cangris and began to make history. Little by little, songs like “Ven Ya!” and “Dónde Están Las Gatas” played louder than ever in the streets and in the nightclubs, introducing these rhythms to the world and infecting millions of people with “Perreo.”
Years may have gone by, but both Nicky Jam and Daddy Yankee continue to influence the new and upcoming generations. For them, that stage in their lives achieved a turning point in their careers and laid the foundations of a movement that still excites people today. No matter how many years pass, they will never forget those times.
Nicky Jam recently recalled his younger years and posted a throwback with Yankee and shared a photo of an old magazine with them on the cover. He wrote: “Quieren un clásico ahí está” (You want a Classic, here it is)
As expected, many fans and colleagues have been quick to react to the nostalgic image. “No hay liga,” said Rauw Alejandro. “When the first pages of world urban music were just beginning to be written,” added Piso 21. In short, everyone agreed that Los Cangris were and are the building blocks and pioneers of Reggaeton.
