The Colombian superstar’s back to back collaborations have been the talk of the industry lately, amid her very public separation with longtime boyfriend Piqué. Teaming up with some of the most popular artists of the moment like Ozuna, Rauw Alejandro, and Anuel AA, Shakira has released hit songs like “Me Gusta,” “Te Felicito,” and now most recently “Monotonía.”
The new Bachata track comes off the untitled upcoming project from the Latina and is accompanied by an interesting music video that features Shakira, carrying her own bleeding heart, whilst wandering the streets with a massive hole in her chest. The official clip of “Monotonía” has been trending on YouTube ever since its premiere on Wednesday, garnering more than 24 million views and almost two million likes.
Filmed in Spain, Shakira co-directed the video with Jaume De Laiguana. She’s also joined by Ozuna who plays the role of her former love. The Barranquilla artist thanked the rapper for his support and love in a heartfelt post, “Gracias a Ozu y a todos ustedes por el apoyo y cariño que me han dado desde el rodaje hasta el lanzamiento de esta canción! Espero que les guste.”
In a recent interview, Shakira admitted that music has brought light to the darkest hours of her life and announced that she’s been working on a new bilingual album, “I’m really, really thrilled about … how gratifying the whole process has been for me. How therapeutic as well. I thought I was done with my album, but every time I get in the studio to do, like, one line or something, or to mix a song that’s almost ready to come out, then I end up with new music because I feel creative right now, and I feel that is an incredible outlet for me to make sense of things.”
