It’s the crossover we didn’t realize we needed. Stranger Things actor Sadie Sink claimed in a recent video that her 10-year-old little sister is “a big BLACKPINK fan,” so she’s “very familiar” with K-pop. So, how long till Sadie becomes a Blink?
The discovery adds to the slew of Stranger Things musical moments that have resulted from the fourth season of the Netflix series. Eddie (Joseph Quinn) performs the guitar solo from Metallica’s “Master of Puppets” in the most recent set of episodes, and Eddie also mentions Iron Maiden in the news broadcasts. Meanwhile, owing to the revived interest in the 1985 hit, Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)” is back at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The Netflix series’ Max, played by Sadie Sink, is no stranger to musical collaborations. She appeared in Taylor Swift’s All Too Well: The Short Film last year, opposite Dylan O’Brien. Swift wrote and directed the 10-minute video, which was based on “All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor’s Version).” The film was recently shown at the Tribeca Film Festival, and it helped propel Taylor’s 2012 cult hit to a new peak of No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 nearly a decade after its original release.
Sink’s sister’s permission comes amid a flurry of great news and accomplishments for BLACKPINK. On June 28, the K-pop girl trio became the first musical act in YouTube history to reach 75 million followers. More recently (June 5), the record-breaking group revealed through a press release that they are in the “final stages of recording a new album,” which will be followed by the “largest world tour in the history of a K-pop girl group.”
BLACKPINK’s debut album, The Album, debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 in 2020, and they’ve had multiple Hot 100 successes, including the Selena Gomez-assisted “Ice Cream” (No. 13) and “How You Like That” (No (No. 33).
